Hutto’s American Legion post receives national, state awards

The Richard A. Oman American Legion Post 302 of Hutto was recently presented with four national and state-level membership awards.

On Tuesday, July 19, and on behalf of American Legion National Commander Jimmie L. Foster and Department of Texas Commander Kenneth Mueller, District 10 Commander Bill Moore presented Hutto’s Legionnaires with the National Certificate of Meritorious Service, and the Department of Texas’ Membership Award and All-Time High Membership Award.

The Post was also inducted into the Department’s 2011 Hall of Fame for membership achievement.

Post 302 received its temporary charter in 2008 under the leadership of past Post Commander Felix Madrid and Adjutant Dan McDowell, and was granted its permanent charter if May, 2011.

Local membership includes veterans of past and current conflicts, including long-time Hutto resident and World War II veteran Charles Hanstrom.

Founded in 1919, the American Legion is a congressionally chartered organization for veterans of the United States armed forces and is the largest of all veterans’ organizations.
